Poverty Is A Reality
Poverty is a reality across Mexico, and Baja California Sur is no exception. Just beyond the “Golden Zone” of Los Cabos, many families quietly face daily hardship. It’s common to find two or three generations sharing a single room constructed from salvaged pallets, dirt floors underfoot, and a blue tarp stretched overhead for shelter.
FSF Is Community-Driven
Friends Supporting Families is a community-driven, not-for-profit group of dedicated volunteers based in Los Barriles, BCS, Mexico. Our sole mission is simple and focused: to raise funds to purchase food for local families in need.
We do this by creating handmade beaded items and other artisanal goods, which are sold at the Saturday Market. Every purchase directly supports families in our community.
Thanks to the generosity of local residents and visitors, in 2025 we were able to provide consistent monthly food supplies to 24 local families.
At its core, Friends Supporting Families is about consistency, dignity, and hope. We do not select the families who receive food and supplies; that process is guided entirely by local Mexican community members. In this way, our support comes from Mexicans, for Mexicans—strengthening community bonds and ensuring aid is respectful and appropriate.
